Merry Christmas, here's a treat for your eyes and ears.

TURN IT UP!!!

Shown here is the fantastic Aston Martin V12 Vantage. This beast is large and in charge, loud and proud thanks to its 6.0-liter V12 cranking out 510 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The exact same powerplant; the 6.0-liter unit can be found in the DB9, Rapide, DBS and even the amazinginly gorgeous One-77, and it's also the hamster wheel that powers the Lola-Aston Martin B09/60, better known as the Aston Martin DBR1-2 LMP1 racecar.

Now, the V12 Vantage is certainly an impressive car, however the DBR1-2's power tuned in to around 650 hp for its track day fun. That 140-hp raise is means a lot more when you factor in the weight difference between the two cars – the V12 Vantage weighs 3,700 pounds and the DBR1-2 comes in at just 2,000 pounds.

Virgin Racing and Lotus Renault GP fill in their seats for the 2011 F1 season

As the very last few days of the 2010 calender year are winding down, some of the last seats in Formula One are getting filled.

After whats been a crazy time for Lotus Renault GP, they have some of their drivers selected; Russian driver Vitaly Petrov will stay with the team alongside Robert Kubica for another two years.

Marussia Virgin Racing, formerly known an just Virgin Racing has also filled us in on who's going to be driving for them. Timo Glock is set to stay with the team. Alongside Glock, Jerome d'Ambrosio is set to fill in the second seat. The Belgian driver won the International Formula Master in 2007 and placed second in the GP2 Asia Series in 2008as well as 2009. As a former Renault reserve driver, d'Ambrosio will replace Lucas di Grassi.

Ironically, di Grassi made some sound in the community by taking the checkered flag at Felipe Massa's charity karting ahead of none other then Massa himself. Kinda makes you wonder if Virgin is really doing the right thing.

With this news, theres still another 6 seats to be filled for the 2011 season. We'll try to keep you posted on what else is going on before then. The first race is set for March 13 in Bahrain.

Where have all the real drivers gone

America’s driving heroes. What happened to the days of Al Unser and Mario Andretti? How have they been replaced with the likes of Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon. None of the latter can actually drive a car. Jimmy Johnson can be seen here crashing a Corvette C6r in a straight line, because he hit a bump. As for Andretti, well, I can tell you no crashes came from this bump. The fact that NASCAR is so popular just goes to show that not enough people here understand what real driving is all about.

When McLaren ruled Can-Am

One of my favorite magazines; Racecar Engineering posted this series of videos in commemoration of McLaren releasing a new GT3 sports car racer.

You'll wanna turn up your speakers for these.

Porsche 917. Why? Because it is that awesome.

I just finished watching Steve McQueen's "Le Man's" and was bored so I thought I would post this fantastic video on what is arguably one of the greatest cars to ever race the 24 Heurs du Mans.

This was a machine that put Ferrari back in their place, a machine that was the most efficient German killing machine since the SS.

It came out of a time when there was no limit on prototypes. the Group 6 cars as they came to be known were huge, limitless monsters. Some of these, such as the Ford GT40 Mk.IV had engines up to 7 liters. This were the racecars that real men drove.

The final variant of the 917, the 917/30 did 0-60 in 2.3 seconds and 0-124 in 5.3 seconds. It was a 1,580 HP brute capable of reaching speed of upwards of 220 MPH on the Mulsanne Straight.

What is even more mind boggling is that it had a flat-12 of anywhere from 4.5 to 5.0 liters; much smaller then some of its competitors. Whats more, this engine was air-cooled. Yeah, really.

But you dont need to read all this mumbo-jumbo, just watch this:

Johnny O'Connell leaving Corvette Racing.

So after a while of me freaking out because I couldn't figure out what some mysterious Facebook post on Johnny O'Connell's page was about, I've finally got it. Unfortunately it makes me a little sad.

In an interview with BadBoyVettes, Johnny revealed his future plans for all to see.

Turns out that the veteran Corvette Racing driver is set to leave his place behind the wheel of the yellow and black racers for a place behind the wheel of a Cadillac.  Johnny O' has been responsible for a multitude of wins for Corvette Racing including at Sebring and Le Mans. The man is also the only American factory Team Corvette driver.

O'connell is a GM factory driver and in no way confined to driving for only Corvette. With this knowledge, it still comes as a shock that he will be taking the wheel of one of the new Cadillac CTS-V Coupe's. From the looks of it, Cadillac has had their eyes on Mr. O'Connell for quite some time and actually requested him as part of the deal of building a factory Cadillac race car.

Sadly though, Johnny has said to not expect to see too much from his as far as Corvette Racing is concerned, seems that he'll be distancing himself from that in order to concentrate more on the Cadillac racing effort.

Kimi Raikkonen to join Ford WRC and race NASCAR? WTF

So rumor's have it that the former World Drivers Champion and Ferrari Driver is in the works of switching his WRC career to Ford after spending a year with Citreon.

This news doth come as a surprise as last I checked, Raikkonen was considering a return to Ferrari Formula One. If this switch to Ford is true, that'll be the last nail in the coffin for Ferrari.

Furthermore: "Funding for the project is coming especially from the United States, and Räikkönen might get an opportunity to also race in a few Nascar events in North America," claims Ilta-Sanomat.

2011 Lamborghini LP700-4 specs leaked.

There is it, finally after the months of speculation and guesswork, a new "confidential" dealer ordering guide shows us what the new flagship of the raging bull might have for ball, and by the looks of it, they're big. really big.

The Murcielago replacement, the LP700-4, or as Aventador or Jota, whatever you want to call it, it's got some impressive specs.

Powered by a  brand new 6.5-liter V12 with 690 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque at the tip of your foot, and  put to the ground with a fantastic all-wheel drive system. Lamborghini's new seven-speed independent shifting rod (ISR) transmission is fitted with lighting fast shift times of just 50 milliseconds (to see all this drivetrain magic in business click here). All of that is going to have to push around a dry weight of only 3,472 pounds, which means 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds. Damn son.

Also they've got new colors oh-la-la.

New McLaren GT car kicks ass, kills bunnies.

It's been 15 years since McLaren released its last GT racecar; the infamous McLaren F1, which is, quite frankly, the most fantastic racecar ever created by mindkind. The McLaren F1 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its debut and won many races after that.

That was all 15 years ago though. Thankfully, McLaren has released their plans to turn their current production road car, the MP4-12C into a limited production GT3 car.

Dat A$$....

I'll admit, I am not really a fan of Veyrons as I think the whole idea of "spending $1.2 mill on a car that will never see a fraction of its true potential" is kinda lame. Hell, it doesn't even look very good.

BUT from a engineering standpoint, crikey it's a hell of a machine.

More the anything though, I just love butt shots.

Paris Hilton wants to start a race team...

This just seems like a terrible idea.

The media star is setting out to start up her very own MotoGP team which will be competing in the 2011 World 125cc class.

The team is set to be unveiled to the public this Saturday, December 18th.

Thankfully (or maybe sadly?), Hilton won't be the one driving. For this, she is recruiting the likes of Sergio Gadea and Maverick Viñales; Gadea has a history of actually being a succesful racer and Vinales
having shown some serious potential. Also, handling the technical aspect with Ricard Jové as technical director will be Christian Lundberg and the great Rossano Brazzi.

I must admit, I am quite shocked that people are actually agreeing to this, I guess it is a testament to how bad the economy is treating the racing community.

I will say, I have seen Formula One highlight reels with pics of the hotel heiress watching races. Gasp.

Still, doesn't this just make you want to throw up a little in your mouth?

Yeah I thought it was cool. Congrats to Sebastian Loeb.. again.

Lamborghini Aventador shows its true self via.. Facebook?

Oh Facebook, how great you are.

The Lamborghini Club of Los Angeles managed to snap this photo of the future V12 supercar coming out of Sant'Agata BologneseItaly.

The LP700-4 as it stands is slated to hold the brand new V-12 slated to chuck out a jaw-dropping 700 HP and 509 Ft-Lbs of torque.  All that is going to have to lug around a feather-light carbon fiber monocoque (this has been confirmed). Sweeeeeet

Cadillac heralds its re-entrance into racing via CTS-V coupe

It's been 3 years since Cadillac dominated the field of the SCCA World Challenge with the CTS-V. Looks like they're looking to take it all back again.

Yesterday, General Motors announce it would re-enter the Sports Car Club of America's World Challenge via two brand-spankin new Cadillac CTS-V coupe's as prepared by the infamous Pratt & Miller.

If you don't know who Pratt & Miller is, just know that they're the ones responsible for the GT1 dominating Corvette   coupes that have dominated Le Mans for so many years.

The two CTS-V Coupe race cars will compete for the first time on March 25 in St. Petersburg, Florida with Johnny O'Connel and Andy Pilgram behind the wheel.

FIA Gala 2010-F1 season highlights video

Recently released video from the FIA recapping the 2010 F1 season. Very much worth the 10 minutes for any motorsport fan.

Racing legend Tom Walkinshaw passes away.

On Sunday, December 12th, Former racing driver, team owner and racing innovator passed away at 64 after a long battle with cancer.

Throughout his life, Walkinshaw was in charge of teams such as Benetton, Ligier and Arrows Formula One Teams. Of which he has been credited for Benetton's glorious championship winning rise to power in the 90's. However perhaps his biggest claim to fame was his spectacular technical achievements with Jaguar touring cars and sportscars.

Walkinshaw began his career as a single seat racer, winning the Scottish Formula Ford title in 1969. Eventually he began to really bring his career up in touring cars as a driver and also as a team owner.

The highlight of his career was his innovations with Jaguar. Along with his own TWR operation, Jaguar saw its rise to a top-level sportscar racing operation. The iconic TWR Jaguar Group C cars went on to win three World Sportscar titles, and to triumph at Le Mans in 1988 and 1990.

Walkinshaw moved into F1 with Benetton as the team's engineering director in 1991. He introduced Ross Brawn, who had been TWR's designer in sportscars, to the team and set it on course for its world championship successes with Michael Schumacher.

Following the controversies of Benetton's 1994 season, Walkinshaw was moved across to the Ligier team, which was at that time also owned by Benetton boss Flavio Briatore, but this arrangement was shortlived and at the start of the following season Walkinshaw acquired a majority stake in Arrows.

He famously recruited reigning world champion Damon Hill to drive for the team in 1997, with the combination nearly winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. Arrows was one of the first to use Bridgestone tyres, with Walkinshaw having been played an integral role in convincing the Japanese company to rejoin F1 a year earlier than it had originally intended.

Walkinshaw had remained active in other forms of motor racing even while involved in F1, with TWR bringing Volvo into the British Touring Car Championship - initially with an estate car - and ultimately winning the title.
Financial problems saw both the Arrows team and TWR fold in 2002, but Walkinshaw remained involved in motorsport, continuing to run a team in V8 Supercars in Australia. He made his final visit to an F1 race at this year's British Grand Prix.

Forza Motorsports 4 trailer released, date set for Fall 2011

So it doesn't exactly take a brain scientist to figure out that just in the time between the release of Gran Turismo 4and 5, the entire Forza series has risen from inception. Now that GT5 released last month, two years after the last in the Forza series, looks like Turn 10 studios already has the Forza 3 successor in on the board.

From the looks of the Teaser Trailer Forza 4 should host new racing styles, new tracks, more cars and hopefully more absolutely stunning graphics.

Lets just hope it doesn't take 15 release dates to actually get it out there.

Stare down....

I'm one hell of a Senna fan and this picture really epitomizes it all. I wonder how the camera man felt when he took this picture.

FIA confirms 2013 will have crappy engines.

Okay, I'm being judgmental and naive but who cares.

The FIA WMSC (World Motorsport Council) has officially approved the idea of switching over to greener engines. switching out the 2.4L V8's with 1.6L 4-cylinder engines. There is nothing mentioned about turbo's but I sure hope they decide to throw so forced induction on this.

Also engine speed will be dropped from the current 18,000 RPM to 12,000 RPM's

They claim that there will be a 35 percent reduction in fuel consumption while offering the same performance of the current engines, I call shenanigans.

Also teams will be limited to just 5 engines per season instead of 8.

Audi raises the roof, unveiling R18

Just as rumors speculated, Audi did in fact unveil the R18 yesterday. Sorry it took me a little while to get this up here, I knew about it yesterday, just didn't get around to it till today, and quite frankly, I gave up pretty quick on trying to write a blog on my phone.

Anyway, lets cut the crap and talk about this thing.
First things first, damn, look at those lights! I think they're Le Mans tactic this next year is to just blind anyone in front of them.

The most notable change is clearly, there's a roof. After viciously denying the use of a close-cockpit races, Audi finally fell into after they were defeated in 2009 at the 24 Hours and also the Petit Le Mans of 2009 and 2010 by those French bastards  Peugeots. With that fact it also came as no surprise that Audi had started working on the successor  to the R15 mid-2009.

Dr. Wolfgang Ulrich, head of Audi motorsport went out during the unveiling at a press conference saying ""In the future, aerodynamic efficiency will be even more important at Le Mans than it was in the past, a closed car has clear advantages in this respect. Our computer simulations have been confirmed in the wind tunnel and during initial track tests."

Among other aero features such as a F1-style sharks-fin fairing, which makes me wonder about the use a the F-duct system from F1 as well.

Another huge change, this car is packing a 3.7 Liter V6 TDI engine, 2 cylinders down from its past predecessor and 4 cylinders from the one before that. Though there are no specs out for HP, torque and all that other fun stuff, I'm sure it wont be something to cry over.

The loss of cylinders may not be a huge impact since weight has also been cut down drastically by the use a of a one-piece carbon fiber monocoque construction. This will probably make it indestructible against zombies and such as well.

Furthermore, Dr. Martin Muhlmeier, Head of Engineering for Audi Sport also said "In 2010 the tires were a really crucial topic which caused us to fall a little behind our competitor, This mustn't happen again."

If you really want to read it, you can read the official press release via autoblog because thats the only place I could find it.

JK, I found it here too: Audi Motorsport.

BMW M1, for all you M3 drivers who want to be more cool.

We've all been waiting for it and the wait is finally over, BMW's 2012 M1 coupe is here and from the sounds of it.

After watching all the teaser videos and hearing rumors and seeing pictures, the kind folks over at Autoblog managed to get their hands on it.

The car utilizes uses BMW's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, and while early estimates had the car pumping out as much as 350 horsepower, turns out is something more like 335 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque. Though, BMW still has a few more tricks up their sleeve with the car's ECU sporting an overboost function that provides an additional 37 lb-ft balls when you want and with your foot pressed hard into the right pedal, 0-60 will happen in just 4.7 seconds. Top speed however is electronically limited at 155 miles per hour.

Apparently the only transmission available is a six-speed manual, there might be a possible twin-clutch DCT slush-box making its way into the car down the road.

Rumors say its a little short on go-fast juice but I won't say till I've driven one; which more then likely be never.

V8 Supercar crowns James Courtney as 2010 Champion

I'll be quite frank and say this is a serious I really know nothing about, though I wish I did. From every clip I have ever seen, I has to be one of the most exciting racing series when it comes to grudge matches and neck-to-neck racing. To be honest, it doesn't hurt that it comes from the land down under.

Anyway, on December 5th (this is a few days old) in Sydney, James Courtney won the championship title. Thats really all I know. I think someone else should write about this. I just have this cool video:

Ford releases the new Mustang Boss 302S

So you like the new 302 but want something with a little more racing flavor, well let me introduce you to the brand new Mustang Boss 302S. Unveiled today at Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in Orlando, FL, the 302S is meant to fill the niche left by the FR500S as well as find its place into racing series such as SCCA's World Challenge and NASA's American Iron.

Being a turn key-track machine, power is being cranked out of the 5.0 liter V8, chucking out 444 Horsies. Also, much like the Laguna Seca version, it has a adjustable front splitter, adjustable suspension, and a 3.73:1 limited-slip diff.

However, unlike the Laguna Seca version, it has its interior gutted, being replaced with a 6-point roll-cage, Recaro race seat (I'm assuming this means its a driver only kind of car), 6-point harness, and a removable steering wheel.

Also it boasts a carbon-fiber deck-lid wing, a ventilated fiberglass hood, and a functional tow-hook.

All the weekend racers should't get too excited though. The 302S is going to be a limited production run of only 50 cars and price is going to start at $79K.

Eurotuner tests the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS

Audi R18 in the works?

According to the Le Mans Live Blog, Audi is working to unveil a new version of their Le Mans Peugeot killer on December 10th. After experiencing limited success against the French auto-making giants diesel 908 HDI FAP, it comes as no surprise that Audi wants their proper place on the top of the podium.

Of course it wouldn't come as a shock to those in the racing world. Audi has notoriously rejected the notion of a closed-cockpit Le Mans racer for years, even as the competition adopted the design to reduce driver fatigue and aerodynamic drag. But after Peugeot managed to knock Audi off of its Le Mans throne in 2009 with its closed-cockpit 908 HDi FAP, the German racing team's tune changed in a hurry.

Looking at the past, it won't come as a shock if the R18 is a closed cockpit variant.

Le Mans Live Blog is run by Michelin, who happens to be a close knit partner with the entire Le Mans program, more particularly Audi Motorsport, so maybe this is  more then a rumor.

Ferrari 458 GT2

 Yep there it is.....

Spotted testing at Fiorano with Risi Competizione's Jaime Melo behind the wheel.

Specs have been revealed to be:

ACO regulated 470hp, which is 100 less then the production vehicle and 30 less then the 430GT2
6-speed  sequential transmission vs. production 7-speed
Weight is, again ACO mandated minimum, 1245 kg / 2745 lbs, up 27 kg / 60 lbs from the 430.

Found this on a page I can't read, thank you Google translate.

Spy shots of the new V-12 Lamborghini

So if you're any normal car-obsessed person, you've no doubt been excited for the release of Lamborghini's V-12 replacement for the Murcielago. With numerous teasers showcasing the awesome new engine, it's been tugging at my heart-strings.

Well turns out there's a spy shot of the new Aventador as it shall be called.

The car is reportedly going to have a brand new 700 hp, 6.5 liter V12 with the car shedding a significant amount of weight in comparison to the old Murcielago.

Lotus adds more to what will be the mess of the 2011 Formula One season

As of this morning, it appears as though there is going to be a black and gold Lotus team on the grid in 2011, but apparently they will be accompanied by... wait for it.. a black and gold Lotus team. Thats right there will be TWO Lotus teams in 2011.

Your more then likely sitting there, really confused and thinking I am a fool, but no, I am no fool.

What has happened is that Proton, who acquired Lotus Racing in 2010, has also acquired Renault F1; thus making Lotus-Renault F1. As of this morning, Tony Fernandes, the owner of Asia Airlines, with his limitless pocketbook and resources, decided it would be a wise choice to have two Lotus F1 teams, regardless of Lotus' rich racing history.

If you're more confused then ever, this might help.

If you're still confused beyond all belief here is a brief history of Lotus' Formula One Involvement:

Basics
Lotus Engineering began in 1952 under the ownership of Colin Chapman. This is the company that everyone knows for making sports cars. Following Chapman's death in 1982, Lotus was sold to General Motors. Then in 1993, GM sold Lotus to Romano Artioli, a Italian rich-dude. Three years later, Artioli sold it to the Malaysian auto-manufacturer: Proton.

Team Lotus
(1954-1994)
The Formula One team had its beginnings somewhere in 1954. This is the same team that subsequently won all those 7 constructors championships between 1963 and 1978. Same company that had the awesome type 72 (arguably one of the most successful cars in Formula One history), same company that put Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill, Mario Andretti, and Ayrton Senna on the map. Unfortunately, in 1994, Team Lotus went bankrupt. However, Team Lotus was not included in the package that was sold to that rich Italian dude I named earlier; Team Lotus fell under the ownership of David Hunt, who was related to F1 champion James Hunt.

Renault F1
(1977-1985)
Here we have the original Renault factory racing team. They're responsible for the great Alain Prost and turbochargers. Unfortunately, they were relatively short lived, running out of breath in 1985 and never ever ever coming back. :(

Toleman, Benneton, and Renault F1 version 2.0
Most people haven't heard of 2/3's of these names. Toleman was once a British manufacturer sponsored by Benneton, a fashion company.  Eventually Benneton straight out bought Tolemana and threw in Flavio Briatore in as a manager. In 1991, Benneton also signed Michael Schumacher and Ross Brawn as driver and technical director, respectively.  Then in 1996, Brawn left Benneton for Ferrari. 2000 came around and Renault acquired Benneton and turned it into its second F1 team. Briatore was hired as team manager, Fernando Alonso as a driver, bringing them two title for the team. Then 2009, Briatore was fired for Renault's infamous actions in the previous year. After that, Renault gave up the chase and sold most of the shares to Genii Capital a investment firm who then subsequently became partners with Proton.

So here we are now, Lotus announced a while ago that they were going back to the old, classic JPS (John Player Special) paint scheme. Apparently they're short of artistic talent and need fans to help design the livery.

To add to any more confusion, the two teams, as I mentioned earlier, bear the same livery, powered by the same Renault engines, and all based in England, despite being owned by a Malaysian auto-maker and invested in by a airline magnate fro Asia.

So in any case, be prepared to see this...

Inaugural Post

So here it is, I always said I was going to do it so it was only a matter of time till I did.

After reading auto/motorsports related news sources, blogs, official websites, watching races, playing games for years, I decided to make a page out of it. Thought it would be a lot easier then trying to tell it to all my friends all the time, and then having to repeat it because someone didn't listen.

There you go, sit back, relax, and enjoy.
