(NFS) Shift 2 actually good??

So it doesn't take a genius to figure out that I'm kinda a huge fan of Forza. So when I heard that the team over at Need For Speed was eyeing a shot at the racing simulator crowd I was a little bit skeptical. I mean, this is the same Need For Speed that made games where you have to outrun cops and purposefully run into semi-trucks and crap like that.

This new game is better though. Click after the break for some info, pics and video.

Apparently though, I'm in for a surprise. Turns out that the NFS guys have been working hard on developing a completely new physics engine that supposedly should compete toe to toe with Forza and Gran Turismo. So good is that the developers have even dropped the "Need For Speed" title and just called it Shift 2. Those developers are the same guys that brought you GTR for PC which was one hell of a racing simulator. So it should be interesting.

The game features a good selection of cars that is as up-date as Forza and Gran Torismo and all are fully detailed; none of this two-tier premium vs. standard crap in GT. It includes cars such as the Nissan GT-R, the Aston Martin DBRS, Maserati MC-12 and even the new Pagani Huayra

The game has also sought the input of real drivers such as Tommy Milner and Vaughn Gittin Jr.

Physics are supposedly good enough that you get punished for being a dumbass. You actually crash and can go flying into a tire barrier or do a barrel roll should you slide into a gravel trap sideways. A.I. has been advertised as being actually intelligent too.
