10 years ago this day...

Ten years ago on this day, a racing legend was lost. Dale Earnhardt was a gifted racing driver who held his own. He was very well known for his antics in NASCAR, being forever known as "The Intimidator", whats surprising though is the lack of people who knew him for his career in sports car racing. In 2001, Dale drove the #3 Corvette in the 24 Hours of Daytona; one of the last races he would ever drive in. The story of him in Daytona is a great one which I would highly recommend reading.

New Corvette Racing C6R ditches barbed wire for blades of death

Well, there it is. Not much to say but that apparently the entire Corvette world hates is because the stripes are ugly. I'm not so sure. The car is redesigned rear end with cutouts allowing trapped air to escape from behind the rear tires. Also there are remodeled front fender flares which I'm not too sure about as far as purpose goes.

Also the car's livery has got badges celebrating Chevrolet's 100th anniversary.

Johnny O'Connell leaving Corvette Racing.

So after a while of me freaking out because I couldn't figure out what some mysterious Facebook post on Johnny O'Connell's page was about, I've finally got it. Unfortunately it makes me a little sad.

In an interview with BadBoyVettes, Johnny revealed his future plans for all to see.

Turns out that the veteran Corvette Racing driver is set to leave his place behind the wheel of the yellow and black racers for a place behind the wheel of a Cadillac.  Johnny O' has been responsible for a multitude of wins for Corvette Racing including at Sebring and Le Mans. The man is also the only American factory Team Corvette driver.

O'connell is a GM factory driver and in no way confined to driving for only Corvette. With this knowledge, it still comes as a shock that he will be taking the wheel of one of the new Cadillac CTS-V Coupe's. From the looks of it, Cadillac has had their eyes on Mr. O'Connell for quite some time and actually requested him as part of the deal of building a factory Cadillac race car.

Sadly though, Johnny has said to not expect to see too much from his as far as Corvette Racing is concerned, seems that he'll be distancing himself from that in order to concentrate more on the Cadillac racing effort.
